When the Foot Hits the Ground
Your feet perform better when all their muscles, arches, and bones are in their ideal stable positions. There are three arches in the feet. When properly supported, they give you a lifetime of mobility.
These three arches form a supporting vault that distributes the weight of the entire body. If there is compromise of one arch in the foot, the other arches must compensate and are subject to additional stresses, which usually leads to further compromise.
Unfortunately, shoes come with a one-size-fits-all arch support for the instep, to the total neglect of the other arches of the foot. The best shoes on the market are still mass-produced, so a fit for YOUR foot is only possible with a custom arch support.
Many people have pain in the feet from falling arches. As the three arches of the feet change with time, it changes the gait, points of wear in the pelvis and spine, and muscle tone in the low back and pelvis. Some lumbar spine pain syndromes are directly attributable to problems in the feet.
When you visit us, we will scan your feet (at no additional charge) to assess for arch problems. You will stand on a platform for about two minutes while the scan is completed, and then I will show you the results on a computer screen. This scan gives us very accurate data about the weight-bearing surfaces of the feet.
Once your scan is completed, we will discuss options for addressing your specific needs with customized orthotic supports specially tailored for your feet. The scan is sent via internet to the lab, and the orthotics are returned to us within five to seven working days.
Most of our patients prefer the orthotics that can be used in mulltiple shoes, but we can also build our orthotics directly into shoes or sandals.
