Here I am with the UGA mascot, Hairy. I'd just told him Bama would see them in December, but it would be over in the first quarter. He didn't take the prediction well.
I go to DC annually with the ACA to visit with Congressional leaders, particularly those we elect from Georgia. They know us, and they know our issues. It is a thrill to "petition government for the redress of wrongs," as is our Constitutional right. I hope we continue to have these rights, but I do not assume it to be true.
This occasion was a lobbying day at the Capitol in Atlanta. From left, yours truly, Representative John Yates (R), and Dr. Karen Mathiak.
Rep. Yates is the last World War II veteran still serving in the Georgia Legislature. At 90 years of age, he is healthy and vibrant. He is planning his re-election campaign now. He told me that he could have opposition in this election from a neighboring county. He stated that he hopes the opposition does not materialize because that will force him to raise money for the campaign. He has done a great job for us, and I hope he serves for many years to come.
Dr. Mathiak is a colleague and close friend from here in Griffin. We work together on many professional issues in our Association and in our community. She has served as the chair of the Republican Party in our county and is also the president of our state licensure board.
